Then and Now

us_war_dead.jpgI wrote this five years ago today:

She cries and doesn't understand how even her tears remind me how much I am so glad she is in my arms. And how much I love her and her mother.

I saw this flashing on a bank sign over the weekend:

Patriot Day honors those who died in the "worst tragedy in our nation's history."

My daughter was just a few months old and her mother has just returned to work. I was home with her when the planes hit the towers. I understood life was going to change, but I never figured that tragedy would be the excuse used to suck the bone marrow out of the American people.

I don't need to mention the thousands that have died in a war started thanks to "false intelligence." You see that fight every night on the news. The film of civilians dying in their "liberation" is Katie Couric's lead story. They end every newscast with soft, sad music over images of the soldiers arriving home in body bags. You do see all that don't you?

Some things have changed since September 11, 2001. Five years ago, I was angry and afraid. Today, I am merely furious.

I'm with you on this. I am more angry at Bush than I ever was with OBL.

Interestingly, I realized on the spot that the sort of thing we've seen over the past five years would happen. I didn't predict the interminable occupation of the wrong country, but the pointlessly-heightened security, the paranoia, the Patriot Act stuff, the abuses of power -- I knew all that would happen the moment I saw the video.

I don't know whether that says something disturbing about the nation, or about me.

Temple of Me

Welcome. All web sites are temples to their creators. Temple of Me will reflect what interests me, Domoni. I am a husband, father (twice), American, and liberal. I live in a "Red state" in the South. I am nearsighted, ambidextrous and over 30. Actually, I'm 153.33% of thirty.
