All over the web today the meme is "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer."
Some of the concerns were valid. But everyone missed the true story of the doll. She was on the Island of Misfit Toys, but didn't seem to be a true misfit. It was as obvious as the paint on her face.
That voice is an obvious fake. And her hands! She is obviously a transvestite. The world wasn't as enlightened in 1964 as we are today. A cross dresser was a "misfit" in those days.
I think the doll was the inspiration for Dil in The Crying Game.

Oh, man, that made me laugh so hard! I just saw "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" on TV the other night, and will not be able to watch "Rudolph..." this year without laughing hysterically now.

I remember as a kid, that the Doll on Rudolph said "Nobody wants to play with a doll named Fred"
