Colleges offering to help students displaced by Katrina

List after the jump

As of 1:17 am Sept 5, I have stopped updating this list!. I've joined with the users at Wikinews to keep that list updated. Thank you to everyone who helped. Please spread the word about the Wikinews list.
The NACAC is actually discouraging students from jumping the gun too quickly to move to another institution, saying it "may not be in their best interest." The organization cautions students and their parents that many of the affected institutions may not be able to handle financial aid requests or tuition refund requests if a student chooses to leave. -- MTV News

This is a list of undergraduate schools. See here for Law Schools.

Please also check Wikinews for other colleges.

The University name is linked to the university home page. The "news" link is most relevant for students looking for Admissions data. The "info" link is any other pertinent information. Toll free numbers are given when possible.

Most schools are offering them free or half-rate tuition. USF is charging full price, and I think that's kind of shitty.

I don't see that Tim. The Florida college articles linked to above point out that all Florida colleges are charging in-state tuition rates. Can you point me to other information? Thanks.

USF changed their policy. When it was first announced, they were to charge standard tuition. My bad, I missed that news.

Letter from President Swygert
September 6, 2005

Howard University extends its deepest sympathies to all those who have been impacted by the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast States. We pray for them, and trust that they will find the strength to sustain them through this difficult time.

As part of our relief effort, the University is working to provide a broad range of services and assistance to victims. These include, but are not limited to, medical, legal, allied health, public health, social and psychological services, religious support and educational assistance for pre-school, primary and secondary students.

Additionally, Howard has begun to admit students from universities in the affected region using a streamlined enrollment process to expedite their admittance. Today, September 6, the University welcomed approximately two dozen students from Xavier, Dillard, Tulane and Southern.

Other interested students may download our application forms from www.howard.edu and fax it to (202) 806-4465. For additional information, students and parents may contact the Office of Admissions at (202) 806-2755 or (800) 822-6363.

To serve as a national reference point, Howard University has established www.hbcurelief.org. The site contains links to chat rooms and national relief organizations, as well as information on how to donate and/or volunteer for the effort and locate missing persons. The site will also serve as a fundraising means for those who wish to donate to the HBCUs impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

H. Patrick Swygert
President, Howard University

Temple of Me

Welcome. All web sites are temples to their creators. Temple of Me will reflect what interests me, Domoni. I am a husband, father (twice), American, and liberal. I live in a "Red state" in the South. I am nearsighted, ambidextrous and over 30. Actually, I'm 153.33% of thirty.
