Take me out to the ball game...
I know it's been baseball 24/7 here at the Temple of Me, but it is a Temple of ME isn't it?
This is one of the reasons Major League Baseball owners suck. The Yankees are building a new park. Great idea right? The fans often can't get tickets to games so a few more seats are welcome. Plus, more seats and you have to have a few $5 right? Wrong:
The new stadium will be built just north of the existing facility in the Bronx and is designed to seat 50,800. That's smaller than the current capacity of 57,478, but the new ballpark will have more luxury suites. - ESPN
MLB owners want to be NBA owners. They want fewer fans paying higher prices per seat. Those fans will pay more for higher-priced concessions. Those fans will pay seat-licensing fees. Those fans will want season ticket "packages" that cover just the weekend games. And those fans will pay extra for that privilege.
I'm not one of "those fans." I'll be one of the fans who go to AA games and see guys playing because they still love baseball. We'll have $1 hot dog night and berms for the kids. We'll get season tickets because we can see most of the games and, on nights we can't go, we give the tickets to our friends who love baseball. We'll have luxury seats: a team seat cushion from last season's giveaway. We'll still cheer the home players and boo the umpire, but we have the sense not to swing at opposing players who are running for balls scooting off the outfield wall. And I bet everyone of us understands the infield fly rule.
See you at the game.
