For want of a word....
If you read that theatres "in the southern USA" were refusing to show a film would you think the theatres were: only "in the South", some in the South or mostly in the South?
Xeni at BoingBoing wrote this:
Boing Boing reader Dave sez, "IMAX theaters in the southern USA are refusing to air documentaries that merely mention evolution. One of the sad parts is that the theaters in question are in museums and science centers -- institutions of science, not faith."
Sounds like those hicks in the South are at it again. That's not the whole story. From the article in the New York Times:
The number of theaters rejecting such films is small, people in the industry say - perhaps a dozen or fewer, most in the South.
What Xeni wrote is true, but doesn't give the complete story. I feel she succumbed to easy prejudice. Her item gives the impression the boycott is exclusive to the South. I couldn't find a list of the IMAX theatres that are rejecting films, but mostly means some of the boycott theatres could be in the North or, god forbid, in California.
Xeni is quoting "Dave", but as an editor she is responsible for fact checking.
By the way, it seems BoingBoing rarely gives a link to those who suggest items or send in corrections. I wonder why?
