100 Years 100 Movies: The Meme
![]()
The American Film Institute commissioned "a blue-ribbon panel of leaders from across the film community" to pick the top 100 American movies from the first 100 years of film.
Ed at edrants.com was "almost ashamed to reveal" he's seen 96 of them. Terry at ArtsJournal has watched 70.
What did I do with my life? At least 12000 minutes were spent watching those films. I'll just list the five I've not seen from start to finish:
44. THE BIRTH OF A NATION (1915)
54. ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930)
74. THE GOLD RUSH (1925)
76. CITY LIGHTS (1931)
81. MODERN TIMES (1936)
A Chaplin retrospective weekend and I'll hit 98.
