Palookaville
I'm a grinner , I'm a lover, and I'm a sinner.... and I'm listening to Bootsy Collins sing "The Joker" on Fatboy Slim's new CD Palookaville. Too bad Bootsy is only on that cut. I'd like to hear a whole album of Fatboy Slim produced Collins.
The other 11 songs feature Slim sampling rhythms, lyrics, and adding just the right beat and vocals. The first run through didn't have a sour note. I'll let you know in a week if it bears 100 plays. (Well, it may take a little longer. I doubt my darling wife will want to hear it every time we drive and every night for dinner.)
I can see a few nerds snapping their fingers while laughing "Slash Dot Dash speaks to me!" (And is that Slim singing "slash dot dash dot slash dot com"? It sure sounds like Uncle Kracker to me.)
Right now my favorite cut is "Wonderful Night" which features Lateef. Twenty years ago I would have been right beside the dance floor wishing I had the rhythm to dance to that song. Still, that cut brings out the mean chair dancer in me.
Polookaville is a wonderful cd...take it from me.
