Tornado - The Aftermath
The tornados are over. We ended up without any damage on our street.
With our friends Mary and David it was another story. They read our blog entry yesterday and offered to have us come over to their house. (They have a basement and we don't.)
After the first wave of storms left the news reports were packed with warnings of "70 MPH winds" in the storms to come. We had a few hours before they would hit Louisville so we packed up and headed over to the safety of David and Mary's house.
It was nice being with friends in such a situation. We always like spending time with them and when the storms started battering the house we headed downstairs. It was a good thing they are both the type to think ahead. There were plenty of candles, flashlights, and a wind-up radio when the electricity failed.
After the storms ended we surveyed the damage. They had lost some major limbs on two trees. The neighbors were walking around with flashlights, and no one was injured.
We all then headed to bed and fell quickly asleep....including the baby who had slept through it all...including being carried down and then back up two flights of stairs.
In the morning we roamed a little further down the street. We found out why the electricity was out: ![]()
That neighbor will have a insurance claim for a new hood. Just up the street one home had two trees fall on the house. ![]()
The family was waiting for a crew to come remove the trees to see what damage they had to the house. Their cat appreciated the easier access to the branches.
When we came back home this afternoon we turned the corner and hoped to see our house. It was there in perfect condition. The second storm knocked another tree down at a house that lost one last week, but no one else had any damage.
The bottom line is: we made it safely through the storms and we had a chance to again be with some really good friends. Not the best of circumstances I know, but every opportunity to be with really good people is welcome.
