You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that you've seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war
Jackson Browne released "Lives in the Balance" in 1986. What has changed?
As the US media concentrates on Haiti Venezuela is in crisis.
So why do I bring up Venezuela? I didn't see a post today at the House of Rorro. When most bloggers miss a day or two you just figure they're busy. You worry when they live where protestors are being shot.
The focus of the HouSe oF RoRRo is: "ARBiTRaRY, RaNDoM aND uNNeCeSSaRY RaNTS aND CoMMeNTS FRoM THe GuY aT THe LaST CuBiCLe aT THe eND oF THe HaLL"
Who can't identify with that?
But I can only imagine the rest: "currently dedicated to informing the goings on of the crisis in Venezuela, a country on the verge of civil war"
Take some time to check on the House of Rorro. While you're there stop by three on his blogroll: Venezuela News And Views, The Devil's Excrement, and the Caracas Chronicles.
And let's hope he's just too busy watching the news to blog.
(Update: He's OK. Please take a minute to read his comment.)
domoni,
Thanks for the link. It's been a tense week for us down here. I haven't had the time to keep updating in the last couple of days, mainly because I'm back at work, but mostly because my friends at other blogs (the links you included) have been doing a better job than I could hope to do.
If anyone else is reading this, please try to inform yourselves about the current situation in my country, Venezuela, as it grows increasingly close to an all out dictatorship. If you care about this things, and have the time to do it, I'd like to ask you either write to your congressperson or your favorite newspaper to ask that a little more attention be thrown this way.
We don't expect the U.S. to start sending marines or anything like that, but we sure could use a little publicity. Most newspapers around the world have given very little space to our conflict, and then, when they do, they don't take the time to get the facts right. This misinforms readers and harms the Venezuelan people in a tremendous way.
Thanks again!

I disagree with Rorro. I think he was doing something that no one else was doing. He was doind a by-the-minute update on the situation, while most of the other blogs were making commentaries (very good, I must say), but not informing about the details as well as he was.
Of course, since he's back to work, that's good (right, Rorro? or maybe not, but...), so it is understandable that he cannot keep up with the news as well as he could from home while he was unable to go to work because of the blockages in the streets, etc.
P.S. I agree with domoni's initial comment. I also missed Rorro's posts yesterday. :(
