Asheville NC Comes North (Sorta)

One of the rare treats of my job is meeting people leading interesting lives. I met a young man today who decided to drive from his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina just to visit Louisville. He doesn't have family or friends here and only chose Louisville because he liked the look of it once on a drive to Chicago.

I tried to help him find an interesting place to hear some local music, but I quickly realized how out of touch I am. A few years of staying home with the family will do that to you. We need to get out more.

I met him because he needed FTP to update one of his websites. I found a PC for him and chatted as he worked. He owns Gold Hill Espresso, a coffee shop in Asheville, and his love of music put him to work at The Orange Peel music venue. Toss in a friend who is a member of the GoGoGirlieAction troupe and I'd bet he'd could dine for months on the stories he could tell.

We didn't have a long time to chat, but talking to him put the idea in my head to visit Asheville some day and have a cup of tea. (I don't drink coffee.)

It was great meeting you. Next visit will be on a weekend so I can soak up some of the Northern jazz and blues.
I really wanted to thank you for letting me on your PC to update the my web site. It helped me out of a jam. Barbarito never got out of his jam, though it was rumored that Hillary you-know-who was trying to help him.
That restaurant you recommended was excellent. just what I wanted. And so delicious. What was the name... something - cafe on the world.
If you do make it over to our neck of the woods... drop me a line.... and do have some tea!!!!

Regards,
Alvy

IF you want to see some more pix of Asheville, USAtoday did a story recently.
