Final Words I
"the parallels, the parallels" - Italo Calvino In Italian this is "i paralleli, i paralleli."
Feeling the parallels as I move through life. "He" was born of Catholic parents while "he" had an abusive parents while "she" married too young. Etcetera. Did Calvino see these parellels in his dying? Or did he remember a bit of conversation? A thought he had to tell? Maybe he just liked the sounds of the words.
In the past writers were hired to pen poetic epitaphs for those soon to die. Today the epitaph has been replaced by the "last words." I hope as I slip off I remember to murmur some obscure poetic words from one such as Calvino.
