The Fair
Took the elder daughter to the state fair today. The darling wife decided at the last moment she didn't want to go. Very smart woman.
Actually, I enjoy the fair now more than I did as a child. Mother always took us to see the animals (boring), the plants and crops (boring), the cakes and such (need I say it?).
Now I cruise the merchants area with a guarenteed stop off at the booth where they make key tags. Great stuff. I asked the lady how long they'd been coming to the fair. Then let her know I'd probably purchased something in each of those 17 years.
I stroll through the quilts...which causes said daughter much concern...and the photographs...which she picks apart. We disagree on junk food. Her for and me against. I refuse to buy any for her and she drags out her own cash stash and blows the dust off.
She gets too hot and sick of the bad food. I take a quick tour through the midway as she rests watching the 4H talent competition. The midway seems very sad now and it's not as menacing as it used to feel.
